Just a Short Walk!

So, my challenge to myself to walk 1000 miles this year started fairly slowly. I blame the long, cold Spring! I have no excuse really (as a Nordic Walking Instructor I run weekly Nordic Walking classes and risk assess weekend walks). But this walk from Deal to Walmer certainly helped to add a few miles. We (being me and my husband) started in Deal and walked along the coast footpath to Walmer, where we made our first stop to eat some of our packed lunch in front of Walmer Castle, looking out towards sea. We then continued along the footpath, passing some lovely houses, until we arrived at Kingsdown. There is just one pub at this end of this path, the Zetland Arms, and we stopped for a quick drink. It's also a nice place to have lunch. At this point you can then return to Deal and this walk would take about an hour each way. We decided to continue towards Dover and see what the next section of path was like. There is a short climb (either steps or following the road around to the golf club at the top of the hill) and then you walk along the cliffs towards the Dover Patrol. It was a beautiful walk, with lots of wild flowers everywhere, and you can see the coast of France quiet clearly on a good day. We turned around at the Dover Patrol and made our way back to Deal. This

walk totalled 11 miles but it was worth every step. When I take my walkers, I will start at Walmer if we go to the Dover patrol, making it more manageable for everyone. Definately one to try if you have not been before.
